From a young age she was addicted to music, and listened to it near-constantly. When she was in elementary school she picked up the viola, and then the flute. Eventually she added the cello, and voice lessons, and learned to at least pick out a tune on the piano. She wanted more than anything to go to music school and become a famous concert player, or maybe a composer. She was well on her way, too, when a routine eye exam in high school led to her being diagnosed with a macular dystrophy that she was told could eventually rob her of a great deal of her sight. Or it could be a mild case that wouldn’t require anything more than a really good pair of glasses and a little patience. Stacey was in denial for at least a year, until symptoms started showing. Then she got angry, and loud about it, and wasted a lot of time that way. It wasn’t until her guidance counselor sat her down and convinced her that she wasn’t going to make it in state school, let alone any competitive music programs, if she didn’t shape up fast and figure out how to deal with her disorder. She snapped out of it, fast, and did her best to cope. She bought magnifying devices for her music stands, and enlarged her sheet music, and spent more time studying and practicing. Mostly she just calmed down and learned to move at the slightly slower pace her life required. Halfway through her first year of college she realized that her sight was already bad enough at age 18 to make her seriously doubt the possibility of becoming a great musician, and changed her focus. She’s coping well, for the most part, by throwing herself into studying to become a music therapist, though there are still definite moments of frustration. Stacey is just grateful that they seem to be coming further apart. Past Background Occupation: -- Education: -- Activities: -- Home: small house in Seattle Finance: she managed, just like everyone else History: Not long after the Pulse, Annie got the measles. Her parents didn’t have the kind of money it took to get the medicine off the black market, and she barely pulled through. She ended up losing her sight. Ten years later she met Joshua when her guide dog followed his scent up onto his porch. Unable to see and so not knowing what he was, she started falling for him. He broke up with her when the transgenic situation escalated in an attempt to keep her safe. She was killed by Ames White down in the sewers to frame Joshua and further incite hatred against transgenics. She’s also learning how to read Braille and uses reader devices when she needs to read something faster than she can manage. She’s most comfortable in familiar areas, though she generally only uses a cane in large crowds or in new places to help her navigate (and even then she really wishes she didn’t have to). Stacey is not allowed to drive because of her condition. She has a very hard time recognizing faces and this bothers her a lot, though she’s getting better at recognizing voices. She will look at someone while they’re talking, but she can’t quite make real eye contact. {O} She was born on a Thursday, so her warden is Destruction and her color is orange. | |||||||||
